The Cedar Creek water system is set for upgrades to protect critical infrastructure and reduce reliance on aging systems. These upgrades will increase capacity by nearly 70 per cent and add new water storage to ensure reliable drinking water for families and businesses in the Kettle Valley community and Mission area.

The City of Kelowna will complete the work in phases through 2026 and 2027 to ensure residents and businesses continue to have access to clean drinking water, a core City service.

Open house

The City of Kelowna is connecting with businesses on Main Street that may be affected by the upcoming Cedar Creek water system upgrades. We want to hear from you early so we can plan project activities in a way that supports your operations and helps reduce disruption. To make it easy for business owners and decision‑makers to participate, we’re anticipating an approximate two‑hour open house specifically for Main Street businesses.

Your input from the availability form will help us schedule the session at a time that works for most businesses and ensure you have clear, timely information about project timelines, impacts and benefits.

Upgrades to the south end water system will make it more reliable and provide safe drinking water for growing neighbourhoods, supporting businesses and families for the long term.

The Cedar Creek water system brings drinking water from Okanagan Lake to the south end of the City, serving neighbourhoods like Kettle Valley. This project will increase water capacity from 41.5 to 70 megaliters per day and expand treated water storage with a new 2‑million‑liter cell at the Kettle Valley Reservoir. Work includes pump upgrades at Cedar Creek Pump Station and Stellar Booster Station, plus a new transmission main from Cedar Creek to Hedeman Court. These improvements will reduce reliance on the aging Eldorado Pump Station, protect critical infrastructure, and support future growth. The project also adds sewer service for nine homes along Stellar Drive to better serve residents and safeguard the environment.

The blue lines represent where construction activities will take place.

Work will happen in three phases starting in spring 2026:

  • Phase 1: Cedar Creek Park to Stellar Drive at the Stellar Booster Station
  • Phase 2: Providence Avenue to Chute Lake Road/Hedeman Road Intersection
  • Phase 3: Additional water storage at Kettle Valley Reservoir in Mountain View Park

Specific dates will be shared as details are confirmed. Some park areas and roads will be temporarily closed during construction.

  • Increase drinking water capacity.
  • Keep clean, safe water flowing for your business and neighborhood, now and as the area grows.
  • Reduce reliance on aging systems.

Water infrastructure is typically out of sight, buried beneath roads and parks. When renewal and maintenance occur, disruptions such as road closures, tree removals and detours are often necessary. These projects don’t happen often, but when they do, they require time and patience from the community.

Some anticipated impacts are:

  • Closure of Main Street from McCarren Avenue to Chute Lake Road for an extended period during construction.
  • Dust and construction noise.
  • Temporary closure of Main Street Park.
  • Temporary closure of linear path near the beach in Cedar Creek Park.
