Background
Having access to transportation helps people get to work, school, appointments, and stay connected to their community. While there are several transit fare options available, the cost of transit can still be a barrier. This study aims to identify ways to make transit more affordable and accessible for people facing financial barriers.
This study includes the communities of Kelowna, Lake Country, West Kelowna, Westbank First Nation, and Peachland.
About the study
The Affordable Transit Pass Study is exploring the potential for a reduced-fare transit program that could work alongside existing fare options. Through this study, we are:
- Analyzing how people currently use transit and where gaps may exist
- Looking at how other communities support access through fare assistance programs
- Exploring ways to build on local programs (like the City’s Rec & Ride Summer Youth Pass) to create more connected services
- Engaging with community members, service providers, and regional partners
- Developing and evaluating program models that are inclusive, practical, and financially sustainable
The goal is to ensure that our transit system continues to meet the needs of our growing community.
Why your input matters
Your input will help shape a potential new fare option that supports residents experiencing affordability challanges. By sharing your experiences, you’ll help ensure the program reflects real needs and lived experiences in our community.
