The Engagement Summary is now live. Take a read here to learn what participants had to say during phase one of our engagement.

Phase 1 - Neighbourhood Bikeways Study

  • Neighbourhood bikeways are typically located on streets with low traffic volumes and speeds where people biking and driving can safely share the road.
  • They often include special treatments that help prioritize bicycles, calm traffic, and connect neighbourhoods to the larger bicycle network.
  • Treatments may include signage, pavement markings, traffic calming, and safe crossing improvements, among others.
  • While neighbourhood bikeways are new to Kelowna, they are used successfully in many cities across Canada and the United States.
  • Neighbourhood bikeways are considered a high-quality bicycle facility that is appropriate for people of all ages and abilities.

Neighbourhood bikeways are an important part of creating a connected and active city. Sustainable transportation is a key pillar in the 2040 Official Community Plan and the 2040 Transportation Master Plan set a target of quadrupling the number of bike trips by 2040.

By making it easier for people to access our primary active transportation network from neighbourhoods across the City, neighbourhood bikeways can help us reach our target.
