A bicycling connection on Kneller Road is planned for 2020 to connect the Mission Creek Greenway, via Gerstmar Road, and the Okanagan Rail Trail via Houghton Road.

The City is seeking your feedback on two options for this bicycling route. Option 1 is for painted bike lanes through the entirety of Kneller Road. Option 2 is for a shared road portion combined with painted bike lanes.

Definitions

Painted bike lanes are an exclusive one-way, street-level cycling space designated by means of pavement striping, markings and signage that is located adjacent to vehicle traffic.

Share the road is a short segment of local road that is shared by bicyclists and motor vehicles, designated through pavement markings and signage.

Options under consideration

Option 1 – painted bike lanes

  • 50km/hr speed limit
  • Painted bike lanes on the entire section of Kneller Road from Hwy 33 to Houghton Road
  • Greater separation between bicyclists and vehicle traffic
  • On-street parking would be maintained along one side of the road between 115-175 Kneller Road.

Option 2 – combination of painted bike lanes and "share the road"

  • 30km/hr speed limit
  • Painted bike lanes on a section of Kneller Road from Hwy 33 to 228 Kneller Road
  • Bicyclists and vehicles share the travel lane on a section of Kneller road between 228 Kneller Road and Houghton Road
  • On-street parking would be maintained on one side of the road between 115-175 Kneller Road, and on both sides of the road between 228 Kneller Road and Houghton Road
