Cultural Plan 2020-2025

We recognize that culture is important to the wellbeing of the community, the quality of life for all residents and the economic vibrancy of the city. It helps to create a place where people want to live with celebrations, activities and spaces.

Over the next year, we'll be working to update the Cultural Plan, and we want you to be involved!

Cultural Plan Update

The 2012 - 2017 Cultural Plan set out 10 goals to foster a thriving, engaging and inspiring community.

The primary goal areas in the current plan are foundational statements which are not expected to significantly change in the updated 2020-2025 Cultural Plan; however, strategies to achieve these goals will be refined to reflect current and future states, and some goal areas will be repositioned as higher priorities. The 2020-2025 Cultural Plan is a community document intended to pave the way for advancement of culture in Kelowna. As such, community initiatives led by various levels of government, arts & culture organizations, the business sector, funders, audience members and the general public to support the strategies will play a key role in the success of the plan.

Phase 3 - Confirmation & Commitment - July 19 - August 5, 2019

A draft of the 2020-2025 Cultural Plan Vision, Key Themes, Goals & Strategies was made available for public feedback in addition to several open houses that could be attended to review the plan and ask questions. The draft strategies were then presented to Council on August 12 and the completed plan will go to Council for final consideration in September 2019.

Phase 2 - Goals and Strategies - Completed

September 2018-March 2019

We sought community input on the 2012-2017 Cultural Plan's goals, how they are prioritized, and if anything needed to be added. We also collected feedback on strategies on how to work towards the goals - what can residents, organizations, businesses or what we can do.

Phase 1 - Visioning - Completed

July - September 2018

We sought your feedback on how the community defines and experiences culture. Questions focused on defining culture, what parts of culture are going well in Kelowna, where people participate in culture and any room for improvements. Survey responses helped us develop an understanding of what culture means to the community, what the community enjoys and what the community would like to see more of.

Thank you to everyone for your participation.

Still to come...

Along with the Capstone Project Data Analysis Report, Creative Sector Economic Impact Assessment and the 2012-2017 Cultural Report Card, several other complimentary reports are still underway:

  • Community Discussion on syilx Arts and Culture
  • Cultural Facilities Master Plan
